Urijah Christopher Faber (born May 14 , 1979 in Isla Vista, California) is an American mixed martial arts fighter currently fighting as a featherweight in the World Extreme Cagefighting organization. Faber won the WEC featherweight championship at WEC 19 on March 17, 2006 and held the title for over two years until his loss to Mike Brown at WEC 36 on November 5, 2008. Prior to his loss to Mike Brown, Faber was ranked the #1 featherweight fighter in the world by both Sherdog and MMA Weekly. Currently, both organizations rank him at #2.
Faber is praised by MMA fans for his ability to perform both standing up and on the ground. In his first match with Jens Pulver, Faber displayed well-rounded boxing skills as well as Muay Thai style striking, efficiently utilizing knees and high kicks to keep Pulver on his toes.
Faber's ground game is backed up by his experience in collegiate wrestling; his takedown defense has been called "outstanding" by WEC commentator and current UFC interim heavyweight champion Frank Mir. The guillotine choke is Faber's submission of choice as displayed by his MMA record.
